Calligraphy
I pick poems based on two criteria:
1: is the poem easy to understand?
if the poem is bizarre, like the ones in The New Yorker, forget it
2: does the poem have unusual words in it?
the wider the vocabulary, the better for calligraphy practice.
True poetry lovers will think I am dim for choosing poems predominantly about nature. Sorry.

The Sea Mouse by Amy Clampitt
Yes, I like Amy Clampitt a lot

Italian rotunda hand

an English batarde hand

a German Gothic Textura
this is the hardest hand because the lines have to be straight and parallel

a French Gothic hand

I made this hand up, hoping it would look a little Japanese. Oriental calligraphy is quite different, done with brushes rather than pens, and I can't even consider starting a new technique
